About the Artist
It
is only in recent years that I’ve begun to embrace the expressive arts
as central to my true calling. I was moved to explore the artist’s
path in 2005, after 28 years as a metaphysical minister, teacher and
counselor. Lessons with my dear friend Meganne, along with some
soul searching, resulted in the discovery that I love to paint archetypal
symbols that portray essential aspects of Being. These vivid images
well up from the depths of my heart and take me on a creative journey
as they emerge on the paper.
My chosen medium is wondrous watercolor. I love its transparency, brilliance and subtlety. I delight in the textured effects of sprinkling salt on wet paint, the richness of multiple glazes and the surprises that arise when colors flow into each other. I like to paint in the colors I feel, which can give rise to red horses, purple panthers and rainbow hair.
Painting has become a part of my spiritual practice. As fears and doubts arise, (”I don’t know how to paint that!”,“Now what am I gonna do?”, “Uh-oh, I’ve blown it!”), I take a deep breath and remember it’s not up to me to make this painting happen. (What a relief!) I relax, let go and shift from “I’m the doer” to “I’m the witness and vessel of what is unfolding. Enjoy the ride!” Works every time!
My
musical journey is a longer story. Suffice it to say that fear won
out for many years until I met a Beloved Friend who ignited and called
forth my singer/songwriter. My first CD album, entitled
Union, is a compilation of twelve songs given to and
through me during and shortly after that initial ignition. The cd is
a musical story of spiritual awakening. Many of the songs carry themes
inspired by my practice of A Course In Miracles. The lyrics are poetry
from my soul, set to a full spectrum of musical styles and rich soaring
harmonies.
I have a love affair with harmony and can blissfully disappear into my digital studio for hours at a time, weaving anywhere from two to seven part harmony for any given song. Singing all the vocals on the album has been a joy as well as a mind expanding opportunity. I started out as an alto and can now sing a fairly strong soprano…a true testimony to what can arise when we abandon our limiting beliefs and allow our Spirit to show us what is possible.
